FLAGSTAFF, Ariz. – The Northern Arizona women’s basketball team has announced another new addition to its team as forward Shay Young will be joining the program after playing her freshman year at New Mexico State.

47 Student-Athletes to Participate in Spring Commencement
FLAGSTAFF, Ariz. – Forty-seven NAU student-athletes will receive their degrees from the university this Friday and Saturday as part of the spring 2013 commencement ceremonies. In addition to the 13 student-athletes who earned their degrees at the conclusion of the fall 2012 semester, the Lumberjack athletics department produced 60 total graduates during the 2012-13 academic year.

FLAGSTAFF, Ariz. – Northern Arizona outshot Montana 42.2% to 35.2% and held the Lady Griz to just 28% shooting in the second half, but Montana had a 39-29 rebounding advantage with 15 offensive rebounds and senior Katie Baker scored a game-high 26 points to lead the Lady Griz to a 59-51 win on Thursday in the Walkup Skydome.

OGDEN, Utah – The Northern Arizona women's basketball team jumped on Weber State to begin the game and utilized a huge run to open the second half to earn a wire-to-wire 65-49 win in its regular season road finale Saturday night at the Dee Events Center. The Lumberjacks bounced back from their loss at Idaho State on Thursday to improve to 8-19 overall and 7-11 in the Big Sky with the win.

More than 50 local elementary and junior high school girls participated in the event held at the Rolle Activity Center on the NAU campus that culminated in their participation in a halftime ceremony at the women’s basketball game.

BROOKVILLE, N.Y. – While Northern Arizona women’s basketball assistant coach Jamie Shadian may be new to Flagstaff and the NAU Athletics program, she has long been one of the most visible and active members of the United States basketball program that competes every four years at the Maccabiah Games in Israel. As the head coach for the women’s basketball team for the 2013 games, Shadian selected her team last week from the best Jewish basketball players in the U.S.

Former Basketball Standouts McClintock and Wahl Headline Hall of Fame Class
FLAGSTAFF, Ariz. – Former football standout Jake Crissup, basketball standouts Dan McClintock and Alyssa Wahl, the all-time leading scorer in the history of the women basketball program, and volleyball announcer Dug Tryon will be inducted into the Northern Arizona University Athletics Hall of Fame in September, Vice President for Intercollegiate Athletics Lisa Campos announced.

Women’s Basketball Coach Darling Names Three Assistants
FLAGSTAFF, Ariz. – NAU women's basketball head coach Sue Darling announced Wednesday the additions of Jamie Shadian, Robyne Bostick, and Karlie Burris as assistant coaches for Darling's first year as the leader of the NAU women's basketball program. All three assistant coaches had superb NCAA Division-I playing careers and bring extensive knowledge to Darling's staff.

Women’s Basketball Alum, Coach Dinkins Hired by Idaho State
POCATELLO, Idaho – Former NAU women’s basketball star and assistant coach Laura Dinkins has been hired as an assistant coach at Idaho State. Dinkins joins the staff of the defending Big Sky champion Bengals under head coach Seton Sobolewski, who is also an NAU graduate and Flagstaff native. Dinkins spent the last two years at NAU as an assistant under former head coach Laurie Kelly.

Arizona Assistant Darling Named Women’s Basketball Head Coach
FLAGSTAFF, Ariz. – Sue Darling, an assistant coach at Arizona for the last four seasons, has been selected as the 10th head coach in Northern Arizona women’s basketball history. Darling has 27 years of basketball coaching experience, including stints as an assistant at both Arizona and Arizona State and three years as the head coach at Air Force. She replaces nine-year head coach Laurie Kelly, who resigned in April to become the head coach at Gustavus Adolphus College.
