Women's Basketball to Host Kent State Saturday for Classic Title
FLAGSTAFF, Ariz. – The NAU women's basketball team (3-3) will look to win the Hilton Garden Inn Thanksgiving Classic when it hosts Kent State (1-3) at 2:05 p.m. Saturday in Rolle Activity Center. NAU defeated Utah Valley, 73-59, on Wednesday in the first game of the tournament, while Kent State lost to Utah Valley, 46-45, on Friday. The Lumberjacks are 3-0 in home games so far this season, having outscored their opponents 72.0-56.0 and outrebounded their opposition 41.0-29.7 in Rolle Activity Center.
On Wednesday, NAU junior Amy Patton recorded her second double-double of the season with 17 points and 12 rebounds and NAU got 13 points from junior Tyler Stephens-Jenkins in her season debut to record a 73-59 win over Utah Valley. Junior Aubrey Davis added 10 points and eight rebounds for the Lumberjacks, who shot 45% for the game while limiting Utah Valley to 39% shooting and posted a dominant 44-30 advantage on the glass.
In Friday's neutral site game, Kent State shot 33% from the field and was outrebounded 46-34 in falling to Utah Valley, 46-45, despite holding the Wolverines to 29% shooting for the game. Freshman Itziar Llobet scored 14 points and added three rebound and four assists to lead the Golden Flashes, while junior Tamzin Barroulihet added 10 points and four rebounds. The Golden Flashes are making their second appearance in NAU's Thanksgiving Tournament (2006), and are 1-1 all-time vs the Lumberjacks.
Admission for Saturday's contest is free with the donation of two non-perishable food items.
