Womens Basketball Unveils 2010-11 Schedule
FLAGSTAFF, Ariz. – Northern Arizona women's basketball has released its schedule for the 2010-11 season. The Lumberjacks have 16 home games, up four from last season's 12, and face nine opponents with winning records in 2009-10.
"We put together a challenging schedule with a young team," said head coach Laurie Kelly. We are fortunate to have more home games this season with a good balance of opponents."
NAU will play 13 non-conference games in addition to its standard 16-game Big Sky Conference season. The Lumberjacks schedule is headlined by a pair of Big Ten and Pac-10 opponents.
NAU travels to Arizona State and Arizona in November and Northwestern and Minnesota in December. The women last played four programs from major conferences in 1997-98 with Oregon State, Iowa State, Arizona and Oklahoma.
"We have a great opportunity to face both instate rivals," Kelly said. "We have a lot of Phoenix based student-athletes so it will be a bonus for them to play in front of their home crowds. With our back to back games against the Big Ten, we have two athletes, Vickie Toney and Shakila Boler, who will be able to play in front of their families in Chicago and Minnesota."
The Lumberjacks also host their annual Thanksgiving Classic and welcome Binghamton, Central Michigan, and Drake to the Mountain Campus.
