Womens Basketball Gives to Flagstaff Youth Team
FLAGSTAFF, Ariz. – Northern
Arizona women’s basketball continues to serve the community
with a recent contribution to Flagstaff’s youth sports. The
women donated basketballs to the Flagstaff Hoops U-11 youth
basketball team this past Saturday after their game against
Northern Colorado.
"We try to give back to the community and any time we can reach
out to the younger basketball community, it is important," said
head coach Laurie Kelly. "We want the members of the basketball
team to represent the program on and off the floor."
The Northern Arizona University athletic department and its
student-athletes participate in community service hours each
semester, and the women’s basketball team has committed its
time during this season to giving back to its local area.
"The team had a good time meeting the girls," Kelly said. The
youth team received admittance to the Northern Colorado game on
Saturday through a NAU-sponsored Youth Basketball League Night
while the NAU women’s team donated tickets to parents and
family.
"We hope to be quality role models for them," Kelly added.
"We are happy to have been able to donate and help them."
