FLAGSTAFF, Ariz. – The Northern Arizona track and field program placed 16 student-athletes in 15 events in the NCAA West Preliminary Rounds in the declarations announced Thursday. The top 48 declared athletes qualify for the meet to be hosted by the University of Texas starting Thursday, May 24 and running through Saturday, May 26.

Track and Field’s Heins Named Big Sky Coach of the Year
OGDEN, Utah – The league's head track and field coaches have selected Northern Arizona's Eric Heins and Sacramento State's Kathleen Raske as the Big Sky Conference Coaches of the Year for the outdoor season, the league office announced Wednesday. It is the 10th Big Sky Coach of the Year award for Heins in his career and third this season after earning the honor for both the cross country and indoor track and field seasons.

PALO ALTO, Calif. – In the world's fastest men's 10,000-meter run to date in 2012, Northern Arizona University junior redshirt Diego Estrada came down the home stretch at Cobb Track and Angell Field Sunday night to fans chanting his name as he obliterated the Olympic 'A' Standard in the event with a time of 27:32.90, placing fifth in the stacked field and officially punching his ticket to the 2012 Olympic Summer Games in London.

Women's Sprints Have Good Showing in Tucson as Relay Record Falls
TUCSON, Ariz. – The women's 4x100-meter relay stole the show Saturday for the Northern Arizona University track and field squads at the Double Dual in Tucson, breaking an 18-year-old school record after running a 45.99 in the event. The foursome of Simone Holder, Darriel Banks, Jenne Childs, and Shamelle Pless, in addition to notching the record, earned personal bests in at least one other event as well.

Ending on a High Note, Men's 4x400m Relay Takes Down ASU, Arizona
FLAGSTAFF, Ariz. – The Northern Arizona University men's 4x400-meter relay team took down its two biggest in-state rivals in the final race of the NAU Open on Saturday, defeating Arizona State and Arizona's relay squads in a season-best time of 3:10.74. The race, highlighted by Adel al Nasser's 45.9-second third leg, puts the Lumberjack squad at 25th in the nation in the event.
