Giovannoni Places Seventh in Big Sky Decathlon
OGDEN, Utah – With the first event in the books at the Big Sky Outdoor Championships, the Northern Arizona men's track and field team sits in sixth place after redshirt freshman Domonic Giovannoni finished seventh in the men's decathlon. It was the first career decathlon for the Napa, Calif., native.
Giovannoni collected two personal records during the two-day competition, with the first coming in the long jump when he leaped 21 feet, six inches to finish third in the event.
The discus portion of the competition proved to be Giovannoni's best, as he recorded a winning mark of 130 feet, 10 inches. The mark bested eventual champion Nick Trubachick of Portland State by just under three inches. Giovannoni also recorded top-five finishes in the shot put (second), high jump (fourth) and 110-meter hurdles (fourth).
Giovannoni has now placed seventh in both Big Sky Championships that he has appeared in. Last year in Flagstaff, he notched two points for NAU in the men's heptathlon.
The action continues tomorrow at Stewart Stadium with the women's hammer throw beginning at 10:30 a.m. PDT.
