Track and Field to Compete at Sun Devil Open Saturday

FLAGSTAFF, Ariz. – The Northern Arizona track and field team will make its final trip down to Tempe to compete at the Sun Devil Open Saturday. This is the fourth meet that the Lumberjacks have competed in this season at Sun Angel Stadium on the campus of Arizona State. The first event (hammer throw) is scheduled to begin at noon.

With the regular season winding down, Interim Director of Track and Field & Cross Country Eric Heins knows it is important to head to the Big Sky Outdoor Championships with full rosters on each side.

"With only two meets left in the season, it is important for us to fill in the final spots on the Big Sky roster," Heins said. "For those athletes who have already qualified in one event, they will be looking to qualify in another, or trying to improve upon their marks from earlier in the season."

On the men's side, 24 of 25 slots for the conference championships have been filled, and four spots on the women's roster are up for grabs heading into the weekend. The Lumberjacks also have 10 men and 11 women who have qualified in multiple events.

NAU is also well represented in the regional rankings with seven women and nine men ranked in the top 48 of the West Region. Seniors Curtis Durocher (hammer) and David McNeill (5,000-meter run) and sophomore Ahmed Osman (10,000-meter run) are all ranked top-10 in the region.

Following the Sun Devil Open, the Lumberjacks will close the regular season with a trip down to Tucson for the Arizona Shootout.
