Durocher Named Big Sky Field Athlete of the Week

OGDEN, Utah – Senior thrower Curtis Durocher of the Northern Arizona track and field team was honored as the Big Sky Field Athlete of the Week by the Big Sky Conference Tuesday afternoon. This is the second time this year that Durocher has been recognized for his strong efforts by the conference.

"It's a great way to start the season," throws coach Mohamad Saatara said about Durocher's marks. "He performed very well in his first competition of the outdoor season, and hopefully he will continue to progress as we continue on."

The Belle River, Ontario native was rewarded for leading the conference in both the hammer throw and discus after the first week of competition. At the Baldy Castillo Invitational in Tempe, Ariz., Durocher finished second in the hammer throw with a mark of 61.28m (201-0), just under three feet off of his personal-best. In the discus event, Durocher recorded a hurl of 48.61m (159-6), giving him a seventh-place finish and a conference-leading mark of over five feet.

With his throw of over 200 feet, Durocher also finds himself third on the West Region performance list.

Durocher is coming off of an indoor season in which he collected his second straight title in the weight throw, and third overall Big Sky Championship.

The Lumberjacks head back to Tempe for the ASU Invitational this weekend beginning with the hammer throw competition Friday afternoon at 1:00 p.m. PDT.
