McNeill Honored by Big Sky After Record-Breaking Weekend
OGDEN, Utah – After breaking
a record-breaking weekend at the Husky Classic in Seattle, Wash.,
Northern Arizona’s David McNeill claimed his second Big Sky
Track Athlete of the Week award Tuesday afternoon from the
conference.
In the 3,000m invite, the six-time All-American blew past the field
in a time of 7:47.52 to break the NAU school indoor record, the Big
Sky indoor record and the Dempsey Indoor facility record that was
set last year by Oklahoma State’s German Fernandez.
The NAU school indoor record was previously held by former
All-American and National Champion Lopez Lomong.
The Australian native leads the NCAA in the 3k, and will compete at
the NCAA Indoor Championships in Fayetteville, Ark., March
12-13.
Behind the strong efforts of McNeill and his teammates, the
men’s squad shot up the U.S. Track and Field & Cross
Country Coaches Association regional rankings from No. 9 to No. 4
this past week.
The Lumberjacks close out the regular indoor season this weekend
when they host the NAU Tune Up Friday afternoon at 3:45 p.m.
