Track and Field to Host Mountain Ts Invitational Friday and Saturday
FLAGSTAFF, Ariz. – The
Northern Arizona track and field team is set to host the Mountain
T’s Invitational Friday and Saturday inside the Walkup
Skydome. This will be the third of six-straight home meets that the
Lumberjacks will host during the indoor season. The meet begins
Friday morning at 9:20 a.m. MST, and is free to the public.
Saturday’s session begins at 8:00 a.m. MST with admission for
adults set at $6 dollars and children for $4 dollars.
The event will be the largest that NAU has hosted thus far this
season with five teams making their way to Flagstaff. Three teams
from California, including Cal State Bakersfield, Cal State
Dominguez Hills and San Diego State will be making the trek.
Southern Utah and in-state rival Arizona State will be competing as
well.
Also taking part in weekend meet is several unattached athletic
clubs, as well as former NAU standouts.
The two-day event will be another opportunity for NAU athletes to
qualify for the Big Sky Indoor Championships. The Lumberjacks
already have 28 BSC qualifiers, and two NCAA provisional qualifiers
in senior Javier Villarreal (shot put), and junior David McNeill (1
mile run).
The Lumberjacks have eight athletes who lead the conference in
various track and field events. Junior Amber Anderson leads in both
the triple jump and long jump. Freshman Charles White also leads
the Big Sky in those two events, sharing the triple jump lead with
teammate Thremaine Johnson. Junior Josh DeKonty leads in the high
jump, and McNeill in the mile run. Throwers Curtis Durocher (weight
throw) and Villarreal (shot put) have also staked their claim at
the top of the conference.
