Track and Field to Host Mountain T’s Invitational Friday and Saturday

Meet Program

FLAGSTAFF, Ariz. – The Northern Arizona track and field team is set to host the Mountain T’s Invitational Friday and Saturday inside the Walkup Skydome. This will be the third of six-straight home meets that the Lumberjacks will host during the indoor season. The meet begins Friday morning at 9:20 a.m. MST, and is free to the public. Saturday’s session begins at 8:00 a.m. MST with admission for adults set at $6 dollars and children for $4 dollars.

The event will be the largest that NAU has hosted thus far this season with five teams making their way to Flagstaff. Three teams from California, including Cal State Bakersfield, Cal State Dominguez Hills and San Diego State will be making the trek. Southern Utah and in-state rival Arizona State will be competing as well.

Also taking part in weekend meet is several unattached athletic clubs, as well as former NAU standouts.

The two-day event will be another opportunity for NAU athletes to qualify for the Big Sky Indoor Championships. The Lumberjacks already have 28 BSC qualifiers, and two NCAA provisional qualifiers in senior Javier Villarreal (shot put), and junior David McNeill (1 mile run).

The Lumberjacks have eight athletes who lead the conference in various track and field events. Junior Amber Anderson leads in both the triple jump and long jump. Freshman Charles White also leads the Big Sky in those two events, sharing the triple jump lead with teammate Thremaine Johnson. Junior Josh DeKonty leads in the high jump, and McNeill in the mile run. Throwers Curtis Durocher (weight throw) and Villarreal (shot put) have also staked their claim at the top of the conference.
