FLAGSTAFF, Ariz. – Junior David McNeill was named to the ESPN the Magazine Academic All-America® men’s track/cross country first team as selected by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA). He is the 10th Academic All-America first team selection in school history.

McNeill, who has a 3.73 GPA, is a five-time All-American (2009 5000m, 2008 XC, 2008 outdoor 5000m, 2008 indoor 3000m, 2007 XC). He was named the 2008 USTFCCCA Mountain Region XC Athlete of the Year, winning the Big Sky and Mountain Region titles. He won the 1500m and 5000m at the 2009 Big Sky Outdoor Championships and finished second in the 5000m at the recent NCAA Outdoor Championships held in Fayetteville, Ark.

McNeill is one of two NAU student-athletes (Golfer Ali Carter) chosen for the ESPN the Magazine Academic All-America® squads this year, the first time since 2002 that the Lumberacks garnered two selections in a season. Overall, four student-athletes were honored on the ESPN the Magazine Academic All-District teams in 2008-09. Volleyball player Brittany Stowers was an all-district third team selection in the fall and swimming’s Tami Beinek and golfer Ali Carter were chosen to the women’s at-large teams. Carter was named to the All-America at-large second team. The teams were selected by voting members of CoSIDA.
