LAS VEGAS, Nev. – Northern Arizona University men's tennis player Tim Handel will compete in the ITA Mountain Regional quarterfinals today, Oct. 21. The sophomore came into the ITA Championships as the No. 17 seed and has now won four straight matches through two days of action.
Handel bested UNLV's Charlie Croxford in the Round of 128 in straight sets 6-3, 6-4 before also defeating Weber State's Scott Hintze in the Round of 64 by a final score of 6-2, 6-2. With two strong wins under his belt, Handel won two more on Thursday, Oct. 20 in the Round of 32 and the Round of 16.
The Reutlingen, Germany native has clearly shown he is one of the best in the mountain region after beating the No. 6 seed Jaime Barajas from Utah State to advance to the Round of 16. In his quarterfinal-qualifying match, he took down another No. 17 seed - Utah's Joe Woolley - in three sets 5-7, 7-5, 6-2.
