Coach Kroll Brings In Three Players From Overseas
FLAGSTAFF, Ariz. – After a successful first season under head coach Ki Kroll, the Northern Arizona men's tennis team has added three new players to their roster in Tomas Hons, Felix Schumann and Adi Zilberstein for the upcoming 2014-15 season.
"I'm extremely excited about our incoming recruits," said Kroll. "They will add serious depth to our team and although we will be very young, we will also be very talented."
Due to the success from last season, Kroll has been able to recruit internationally as these three incoming players come from the Czech Republic, Germany and Israel.
Hons comes from Valasske Mezirici, Czech Republic where he is currently ranked in the Top 100 in his home country. At the age of 16, Hons was ranked No. 15 in Juniors play.
Schumann hails from Muelheim an der Ruhr, Germany achieving a lot of success overseas. Schumann was ranked no. 31 in the Boy's 18 in Germany and was also ranked #328 in the Men's Open Division.
Zilberstein comes from Ramla, Israel to Flagstaff where he was ranked in the Top-Eight in Juniors from the age of 15-18. As an adult at the age of 18, Zilberstein was ranked No. 21 in Israel in adults tennis.
Kroll and his 2013-14 squad proved the doubters wrong leading the Lumberjacks to a 13-9 overall record and a third place finish in the Big Sky. The 13 wins were the most since 2010.
"When you add in the experience of our returners, this team should be motivated to challenge for a championship," said Kroll. "It will now be up to all of them to put in the work. I can't begin to tell you how pleased I am with our returners and these top recruits. We all have a lot to look forward to."
