LAS VEGAS, Nev. – The Northern Arizona men's tennis program finished up competing in last week's ITA Mountain Region Championship in Las Vegas, Nev. where the Lumberjacks were able to pick up six wins in singles play against the top competition in their region.
"Getting an opportunity to play against the best players in the Mountain Region gave me a chance to see where we are," said Kroll. "I feel that we are improving constantly, which is very good so I am pleased with where we are at right now."
Junior Jordan Gobatie posted a team best record 2-1 as Northern Arizona went 6-5 in singles play as a team. Gobatie had an impressive win over Jeremy Bourgeois from BYU by a score of 7-5, 3-6, 6-2.
Doubles play continues to improve for the Lumberjacks as the team posted a 5-3 record throughout the tournament. Black and Tomasetti were paired up during ITA's and posted a 3-1 record defeating Big Sky Conference opponent Northern Colorado's Jordan Loughnan and Austin Mayo 8-4.
Gobatie and Locci was the other doubles team representing NAU at regionals and went 2-2 throughout the tournament. Their two wins were by a combined score of 16-8.
The Lumberjacks will now take the week off before they head back to Las Vegas for the UNLV Easley Fall Invite beginning on Nov. 1. It will be the final fall tournament for the Lumberjacks as they prepare for their spring schedule.
