ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. – The Northern Arizona men's tennis team participated in its second fall invitational of the season at the University of New Mexico Balloon Fiesta Invitational in Albuquerque. The invitational featured some tough competition from the southwest and the Lumberjacks competed very well making head coach Ki Kroll proud of the team's effort and improvement throughout the beginning of fall season.
"My players are buying into our training and working very hard, which is evident in our many close matches," said Kroll. "As a coach, you have to look at the overall improvement of the team and it is continuing to get better."
Junior Kester Black continues his impressive start to his fall season defeating some tough competition including Marc Wesgate from New Mexico State by a score of 7-6(5), 6-2. Black was also able to defeat Mads Hegelund in two straight sets 6-1, 6-2.
Junior Alan Barrios also had a great weekend in New Mexico facing some fierce competition and played at a high level. Barrios was able to take down Thomas Douglas of New Mexico State 7-5, 6-2.
"Alan is continuing to work hard and improve his game," said Kroll. "He played well this weekend in doubles and had a big win against Douglas so I am pleased with his progress this fall."
