LAS CRUCES, N.M. – The Northern Arizona men's tennis team participated in its first invitational of the fall season and the Lumberjacks came away with some impressive results. Junior transfer Jordan Gobatie won his flight going 4-0 in singles play defeating Strahinja Trecakov from New Mexico State 6-1, 7-6 in the final.

"Jordan had a really good tournament," said head coach Ki Kroll. "He handled himself really well on the court and pulled out some tough matches. He is going to be a really good player in our program."

The Lumberjacks participated in three flight championships in the tournament, winning all three. In doubles play, Gobatie and Alan Barrios put on an impressive performance going 3-0 defeating Abilene Christian and New Mexico State twice. Every match for Gobatie and Barrios ended in an 8-6 win.

"Jordan and Alan played really well together," said Kroll. "The guys had good chemistry on the court."

The freshman duo of Fabio Tomasetti and Alex Locci were very impressive in doubles play posting a 3-1 record and defeated in-state University of Arizona. Kroll was pleased with the way his entire team performed in its first invitational of the season.

"I am happy with the way we worked as a unit," said Kroll. "When the guys were not playing they were supporting their teammates and I am proud of the way we competed in our first tournament."

The Lumberjacks will now take the week to rest up and practice in Flagstaff before they head back to New Mexico for the University of New Mexico Balloon Fiesta Invitational in Albuquerque beginning Oct. 4.

"The level of play will rise in New Mexico," said Kroll. "I expect our guys to rise to the level of play and compete extremely hard so it will be a good test."
