Idaho Hands Men's Tennis 7-0 Defeat

LEWISTON, Idaho – Senior Ben Lantz and junior Shaun Waters won at No. 3 doubles to prevent a doubles sweep, but the Northern Arizona men's tennis team could not scratch out any other victories late Friday afternoon in a 7-0 loss to Idaho. The match was moved indoors to Lewis-Clark State College due to weather conditions in Moscow, Idaho and did not start until two hours after the originally scheduled time.

Idaho took two of the three doubles matches, winning at No. 1 and 2, but could not complete the sweep. Lantz and Waters, playing with each other for the first time this spring, earned an 8-4 victory over Marius Cirstea and Filip Fichtel at No. 3 for the team's only win against the Vandals. The doubles win was both Lantz's and Waters' fifth doubles victory of the season respectively.

The Lumberjacks found no success in singles play losing in straight sets in five of the six singles. The lone Lumberjack to make it to a third set was Waters, who won his second set after dropping the first to force the deciding third set before eventually falling to Abid Akbar, 6-1, 4-6, 6-4.

NAU will take Saturday off before wrapping up their weekend in Cheney, Wash. on Sunday at 1 p.m. against Eastern Washington in a Big Sky conference match. They will be looking for their second Big Sky win of the season and first overall victory in eight matches.
