Forty-Eight Student-Athletes to Participate in Graduation Ceremonies
FLAGSTAFF, Ariz. – Forty-eight Northern Arizona University student-athletes are participating in spring commencement ceremonies on the NAU campus this weekend and will be commissioned degrees as part of the Class of 2012. It is the second largest graduating class in athletics department history, trailing only the 55 graduates from last spring.

Men's Tennis Soars Over Seattle, 6-1, To Finish Season
SEATTLE, Wash. – The Northern Arizona men's tennis team defeated Seattle, 6-1, Sunday morning at the Seattle University Tennis Courts to cap off its 2012 season with a bang. The Lumberjacks finished the spring on a two-match winning streak and seniors Robin Pezzutto and Ben Lantz had perfect days in their final matches at NAU.

Men's Tennis Snaps Skid with Dominant Win Over Portland State
VANCOUVER, Wash. – The Northern Arizona men's tennis team swept doubles play for just the second time this season and then dominated singles play in defeating Portland State, 6-1, on Saturday at Club Green Meadows to snap their eight-match losing streak. The Lumberjacks also claimed their first Big Sky victory since their conference opener on Feb. 11 to move to 2-6 in the conference and 5-16 overall.

Tennis Bound for Portland State, Seattle to Conclude Regular Season
FLAGSTAFF, Ariz. – The Northern Arizona tennis teams will both conclude their regular seasons this weekend with road matches at Portland State and Seattle on Saturday and Sunday respectively. The two matches will wrap up a grueling spring for the Lumberjack tennis squads who combined to play just nine home matches in 40 total matches thus far between the two teams. The two teams have also combined to play 10 nationally-ranked opponents in the ITA top-75 rankings.

Schimmelbauer, Bermudez Win as Men's Tennis Falls to EWU, 5-2
CHENEY, Wash. – The Northern Arizona men's tennis team got perfect days from sophomore Dominic Bermudez and junior Patrick Schimmelbauer, but could not come away with a victory over its Big Sky rival Eastern Washington on Sunday afternoon. The Eagles handed the Lumberjacks a 5-2 defeat at the EWU Outdoor Courts, denying NAU its second conference victory of the season.

Idaho Hands Men's Tennis 7-0 Defeat
LEWISTON, Idaho – Senior Ben Lantz and junior Shaun Waters won at No. 3 doubles to prevent a doubles sweep, but the Northern Arizona men's tennis team could not scratch out any other victories late Friday afternoon in a 7-0 loss to Idaho. The match was moved indoors to Lewis-Clark State College due to weather conditions in Moscow, Idaho and did not start until two hours after the originally scheduled time.

FLAGSTAFF, Ariz. – The Northern Arizona men's tennis team is off to the Pacific Northwest this weekend as they look to snap its six-match losing streak when they play Idaho in Moscow, Idaho on Friday and Eastern Washington in Cheney, Wash. on Sunday. The Lumberjacks will be in search of their first win since defeating Western Illinois, 7-0, on March 17 as they aim to improve their 4-14 overall record and 1-5 conference mark this spring.

LAS CRUCES, N.M. – The Northern Arizona men's tennis team received another singles victory from sophomore Dominic Bermudez, one of two singles wins for the Lumberjacks on Saturday, but dropped a 5-2 decision to New Mexico State. After losing the doubles point, NAU took the first set in five of the six singles yet were unable to snap their five-match losing skid.

The Lobos handed the Lumberjacks their fourth consecutive defeat as NAU fell to 4-12 this season.

FLAGSTAFF, Ariz. – Junior Robert Martin dropped a three-setter that featured tiebreakers in the second and third set at No. 5 singles, which clinched the match for Sacramento State, 4-2, on Wednesday in the University Fieldhouse. Due to the winter storm that hit Flagstaff this past weekend, the Northern Arizona men's tennis team was forced to play in the Fieldhouse and fell to 4-9 this season, 1-3 in the Big Sky.

The Hornets have won the past three Big Sky championships and four of the last five, and are one of four remaining unbeaten teams in conference play, while NAU currently sports a 1-2 Big Sky record, 4-8 overall.

Despite the court and site change due to the impending winter storm in Flagstaff, the Lumberjacks rode their home court advantage to their fourth win of the season, improving to 4-8 this spring.

Waters went a perfect 3-0 in singles play and posted a 2-1 record in doubles play partnering with freshman Trevor Unger during the Lumberjacks' 1-2 weekend in Las Vegas, Nev.

Waters also won at No. 1 doubles with freshman Trevor Unger for the Lumberjacks' lone doubles win on the day at the Fertitta Tennis Complex.

OGDEN, Utah – The Northern Arizona men's tennis team dropped their third consecutive match on Saturday, falling 6-1 to Weber State at the Ogden Athletic Club. Sophomore Dominic Bermudez won both his singles and doubles matches, but could not prevent the Lumberjacks from dropping their first conference match of the season. NAU is now 1-1 in the conference and 2-5 overall.

SALT LAKE CITY, Utah – Junior Patrick Schimmelbauer won at No. 4 in the final match of the day, but the Northern Arizona men's tennis team dropped a 6-1 decision to Utah Friday afternoon at the Eccles Tennis Center. Schimmelbauer defeated the Utes' Ace Matias in three grueling sets as the Lumberjacks fell to 2-4 on the season.

Waters Wins Fourth Straight in Men's Tennis Loss to Air Force
USAFA, Colo. – A day after handing one Big Sky opponent a 6-1 defeat, Air Force did the same to the Northern Arizona men's tennis team on Sunday. The Falcons knocked off Portland State on Saturday and then returned to their home court to deny the Lumberjacks their third straight victory by the same 6-1 margin. NAU's only victory of the day came courtesy of junior Shaun Waters' fourth consecutive win at the No. 4 spot, 2-6, 6-1, 6-3 over the Falcons' Alex Lineberry.

RIVERSIDE, Calif. – The Northern Arizona men’s tennis team clinched the doubles point for the first time in three tries this season, and coupled with strong singles play, they earned their first victory of the season. The win was the Lumberjacks' second consecutive victory in as many years against the Highlanders following last year’s 4-3 win.

TUCSON, Ariz. – Sophomore Dominic Bermudez got the best of his brother, Carlos Bermudez, at the No. 3 doubles, but Carlos’ No. 55 Arizona squad was the team that won its season opener on Saturday, 7-0 at the Tucson Country Club. Dominic Bermudez and junior Robert Martin defeated Carlos Bermudez and Mario Urquidi, 8-6, but the Northern Arizona men’s tennis team would struggle the rest of the day, failing to record another victory in its season opening loss.

OGDEN, Utah – With under two weeks remaining until they open their 2012 season, both the Northern Arizona men’s and women’s tennis teams were voted third in the Big Sky conference preseason polls released today as voted on by the conference head coaches. Sacramento State was chosen first on both the men’s and women’s sides atop the polls. Coaches were not allowed to vote for their own team.

After falling to Johannes Markel of the host school in the first round of singles play, Bermudez moved on in the consolation draw of the flight two singles with a default win over UC Irvine's Jacob Jung.

LAS VEGAS, Nev. – Junior Patrick Schimmelbauer advanced to the fourth round of the consolation round, but his road at the ITA Mountain Regional Championships came to end on Day 3 when he fell to Arizona's Mario Urquidi, 7-5, 6-3. Earlier in the morning, Schimmelbauer knocked off Alex Grubbs of Air Force, 6-2, 6-2. He finished the tournament at 3-2 in singles play, more than the other three Lumberjacks at the tournament combined.

LAS VEGAS, Nev. – The Northern Arizona men's tennis team completed a busy first day of the ITA Mountain Regional Championships with a doubles win by senior Robin Pezzutto and junior Shaun Waters over UNLV's Charlie Alvarado and Willie Sublette, 9-7 in the first round of the consolation draw. That doubles win wrapped up the Lumberjacks' play at the Darling Tennis Center after seven singles matches and three doubles matches.

ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. – The Northern Arizona men's tennis wrapped up play at the UNM Balloon Fiesta Invitational on Sunday with a light playing schedule. Junior Shaun Waters the lone Lumberjack to compete in singles play, defeating the US Air Force Academy's Steven Young, 3-6, 6-2, 6-4 in the semifinals of the Flight A consolation. Waters' consolation finals match against New Mexico's Mads Hegelund was not played.

ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. – Senior Josh Brown continued his strong play on Day 2 of the UNM Balloon Fiesta Invitational by defeating Vinni Lodolo of the US Air Force Academy in the Flight B quarterfinals, 6-4, 4-6, 7-6 to reach the semifinals. But his run would end there, falling to Arizona's Robin Chou, 6-4, 6-1. Overall, the Northern Arizona men's tennis team went 2-3 in singles play on Saturday.

Bermudez went 3-2 overall in singles play making the consolation finals before having to retire due to injury to New Mexico State’s Luis Ramirez.
