Men’s Tennis Opens Season with 5-2 Win at Scottsdale CC

SCOTTSDALE, Ariz. – After dropping the doubles point, Northern Arizona rallied with five singles wins to post a 5-2 victory over Scottsdale Community College Monday afternoon in the Lumberjack's spring season opener.

In doubles play to open the match, NAU sophomore Hugo Ramadier and freshman Dominic Bermudez scored an 8-6 win over Scottsdale CC's Charles Norman and Sam Morris at No. 2. The Artichokes would claim wins at the No. 1 and 3 doubles positions, however, to jump to a 1-0 lead.

The Lumberjacks would fair much better in singles play, winning at each of the top-five singles positions. At No. 1, Ramadier battled for a 7-6, 7-5 win over SCC's Oliver Gilbert. Bermudez picked up a 6-3, 7-5 win at No. 4 while junior Josh Brown recorded a 6-4, 6-4 win at No. 5. Sophomore Patrick Schimmelbauer and senior David Flodberg were pushed to three sets at No. 2 and 3, respectively, but both would emerge victorious.

Northern Arizona will return to the valley on Friday to face UC Riverside at Paseo Racquet Club in Glendale at 3 p.m.
