Mens Tennis Freshman Bermudez Wins Singles Title at Balloon Fiesta
ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. – Northern Arizona freshman Dominic Bermudez defeated Steven Young of Air Force, 7-6, 6-7, 7-6 in the championship match of Singles Flight B to lead the Lumberjacks on the final day of the New Mexico Balloon Fiesta Invitational. The Tucson, Ariz. native won five singles matches in three days to win his first title as a collegiate player.
Bermudez also played in the doubles final on Sunday with NAU junior Ben Lantz. The pair faced New Mexico's Phil Anderson and Jaden Phillips, dropping an 8-2 decision to the home-standing Lobo duo.
In other consolation play on Sunday, the Lumberjacks dropped a pair of singles matches but went 3-0 in doubles, finishing the tournament with an impressive 14-4 doubles record over the three-day tournament.
The Lumberjacks will continue fall play at the ITA Regional in Las Vegas starting on October 20th.
