Men’s Tennis Dominates Opening Day of Utah State Invitational

LOGAN, Utah – The Lumberjacks combined to go 6-3 in singles matches and claim their only doubles match on the opening day of the Utah State Invitational. Competing with Northern Arizona are players from host Utah State, Big Sky members Weber State and Portland State, and local unaffiliated tennis players.

Senior David Flodberg, junior Robin Pezzutto and sophomores Patrick Schimmelbauer and Hugo Ramadier all received a bye in the opening round and picked up a victory in the round of 32. Freshman Bruno Ferreira also had a first-round bye and then one his first collegiate match with a 4-6, 6-1, 6-0 victory over Portland State's Roman Margoulis. Junior Josh Brown claimed a win in the opening round but fell to Sasha Kiehne of Weber State in the second round.

Three of the four NAU doubles teams for the weekend had a bye in the first round and did not play on Thursday. The only pair that did compete happened to be the only Lumberjacks who did not win in singles play, junior Ben Lantz and freshman Dominic Bermudez. The duo combined to post an 8-5 win over Alex Daines and Lenny Whiting of host Utah State.

Play continues tomorrow in Logan with singles play beginning at 9:30 a.m.
