Golovics, Reiff Sweep Big Sky Weekly Tennis Awards
OGDEN, UTAH - Northern Arizona has swept The Big Sky Conference Player of the Week awards for matches played January 21st through the 27th. NAU sophomore Andrew Reiff is the men’s Player of the Week while Lumberjack junior Orsi Golovics is the women’s Player of the Week.
Reiff, a sophomore from Phoenix, led the Lumberjacks to
conference victories over Sacramento State and Montana State. Reiff
defeated Sacramento State’s Anton Stryhas in a classic
three-setter 7-6 (4), 6-7 (1), 7-6 (2) as the Lumberjacks beat the
defending Big Sky champions 6-1. He also teamed with Robin Pezzutto
at No. 3 doubles to win 8-6.
Reiff beat Montana State’s Corey Smith 6-2, 6-1 at No. 1
doubles in the Lumberjacks’ 7-0 victory over the Bobcats. He
and Pezzutto won in doubles 8-4.
Golovics, a junior from Szentendre, Hungary, led the Northern
Arizona women to a 4-3 victory over UC Santa Barbara. Golovics beat
Santa Barbara’s Sofia Novak 6-4, 6-7, 6-3 at No. 1 singles to
clinch the 4-3 victory. Golovics and freshman Maila Wahinepio, who
are ranked No. 35 nationally, won the No. 1 doubles match 9-8.
The NAU men play three matches in Las Vegas this weekend, starting with a match at No. 75 UNLV on Friday at 2:00 PM, while the women play their only match of the week on Saturday at Arizona at noon.
