Mens Tennis Drops Big Sky Match at Weber State, 4-3
OGDEN, Utah – Northern Arizona won singles matches at No. 4, 5 and 6, but Weber State claimed the doubles point and the top-three singles matches to record a 4-3 Big Sky win on Saturday in Ogden. NAU lost its fourth-consecutive match, dropping to 8-8 overall and 3-2 in the Big Sky while Weber State moved to 6-10 overall and 3-1 in conference play.
The wildcats swept doubles to open with the first point of the match. Sophomores Andrew Reiff and Robin Pezzutto played at No. 2 doubles and dropped an 8-6 decision, while Freshmen Hugo Ramadier and Kevin Taylor fell by the same score at No. 3. An 8-3 win for Weber State at No. 1 completed a sweep to give the home team the early lead.
The Lumberjacks got on the board first at No. 6 singles, where Taylor topped Weber State's Dave Hintz 6-2, 7-6. At No. 5, junior David Flodberg claimed a 7-6, 6-4 win while Pezzutto won his second-consecutive match with a 6-2, 3-6, 6-2 win over Spencer Marchant. Weber State would claim straight-set victories at No. 1 and 2 to even the match at 3-3, and in the No. 3 singles match Weber State's Sascha Kiehne rallied to top Ramadier 5-7, 6-0, 6-2 to claim the match for the Wildcats.
The Lumberjacks will look to rebound tomorrow in another Big Sky match at Idaho State, which ended a 25-match losing streak with a 6-1 win over Northern Colorado on Saturday. First serve is scheduled for 8 a.m. Arizona time.
