Ramadier, Taylor Stay Hot as Men's Tennis Falls to Texas-Arlington, 5-2
LAS CRUCES, N.M. – Freshmen Hugo Ramadier and Kevin Taylor
extended their impressive winning streaks, but Texas-Arlington won
the other-four singles matches and the doubles point for a 5-2
victory on Friday morning in Las Cruces. The loss ended Northern
Arizona’s five-match winning streak, dropping the Lumberjacks
to 7-3, while Texas-Arlington improved to 2-4.
Northern Arizona would open the match dropping two of three doubles
matches for the second-consecutive day. The Lumberjacks lone
doubles win came at No. 1, where sophomores Andrew Reiff and Robin
Pezzutto topped the Mavericks’ Mindaugas Celedinas and Dmitry
Minkin, 8-5.
In singles, The Lumberjacks got their first point of the match at
No. 3, where Ramadier cruised past Texas-Arlington’s Brieuc
Hamon, 6-1, 6-2, for his seventh-consecutive victory to put his
season record at 9-1. At No. 6, Taylor would improve his winning
streak to five matches, rallying for a 0-6, 7-6 (5), 10-5 win. The
Lumberjacks were close to a win at No. 1, but Celedinas outlasted
Reiff for a 6-7 (5), 7-6 (11), 10-6 win. Straight-set victories for
UTA at No. 2, 4 and 5 clinched the win for the Mavericks.
The Lumberjacks continue play in Las Cruces on Saturday morning,
facing No. 59 New Mexico State at 9 a.m.
