Mens Tennis Back Home to Host Grand Canyon Sunday
FLAGSTAFF, Ariz. – Winners of three straight matches,
Northern Arizona returns to Flagstaff to host Grand Canyon
University on Sunday at 10 a.m. at Flagstaff Athletic Club East.
The Lumberjacks are 2-0 at home this season and are tops in the Big
Sky with a 5-2 overall record and 3-0 conference mark.
Northern Arizona Quick Hits
The Lumberjacks have dominated Big Sky-play, going 3-0 and
outscoring conference opponents 20-1 in three matches… NAU
has won its last-eight home matches dating back to the 2008 season
…In Big Sky matches, NAU is 17-1 in singles and 7-2 in
doubles…Northern Arizona has winning records at all-six
singles positions for the season and are above .500 at two of three
doubles spots…Freshman Hugo Ramadier has a team best 6-1
singles record at the No. 4 position, having won his last-four
matches…sophomores Andrew Reiff and Robin Pezzutto are 6-1
at No. 3 doubles and have also won four-consecutive matches.
Scouting Grand Canyon
The Antelopes, of Division-II, have played seven matches but have
only reported results in five duals. They have a 1-4 record in
those reported matches, with their only win coming on the road at
Whittier College in Los Angeles. Along with the Grand Canyon women,
the men’s tennis team hosted six matches at home last week.
Sophomore Patrice Giraldi has played at No. 1 singles while teaming
with junior Will Herbert at No. 1 doubles.
Northern Arizona represents the only Division-I opponent on the
Grand Canyon schedule this season. NAU is 11-2 all-time against
Grand Canyon, though the teams have not played since 1988.
