Mens Tennis Wins Five Matches on Final Day of UNM Balloon Fiesta
ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. – Freshman Kevin Taylor fell in the
championship match of the B-draw, but NAU claimed five consolation
victories as the University of New Mexico Balloon Fiesta
Invitational concluded Sunday.
Taylor had gone undefeated in the B-draw to advance to the title
match, where he faced New Mexico’s Conor Berg. The Lumberjack
freshman would see his run come up just short of a championship, as
Berg claimed a 6-4, 6-3 victory on his home court.
In consolation play in the singles A-draw, junior David Flodberg
and freshman Hugo Ramdier both recorded straight-set victories over
opponents from Air Force on Sunday to win their respective
consolation draws. In a B-draw consolation final, NAU sophomore Ben
Lantz faced Lumberjack sophomore Josh Brown, with Lantz claiming a
6-3, 6-7, 6-2 victory over his teammate.
Also on Sunday, Lantz and Taylor cruised to an 8-0 doubles victory
over a pair from Northern Colorado. In another matchup of
teammates, Flodberg and freshman Patrick Schimmelauer played a
consolation doubles match against NAU junior David Flodberg and
sophomore Andrew Reiff, with Flodberg and Schimmelbauer claiming an
8-4 victory.
Northern Arizona will continue its fall schedule at the ITA
Regionals in Las Vegas beginning October 21.
