Mens Tennis Sweeps Portland State
FLAGSTAFF, Ariz. – Northern
Arizona men’s tennis collected its second Big Sky Conference
win of the season with a 7-0 sweep over Portland State on Saturday
at the Flagstaff Athletic Club. The Lumberjacks moved to 2-1 in
league play and 4-14 overall this spring.
NAU remained undefeated in Flagstaff building on a 7-0 home sweep
over Northern Colorado on March 7.
“We always take them as must-wins,” said assistant
coach Rich Paulosky of the home conference matches. “That is
what this was today—a must-win.”
The Lumberjacks fought through a difficult preseason schedule, but
played a rigorous slate to prepare for the conference season.
“The big thing is when you play tough teams you get
better,” Paulosky said. “That showed today. They were
really steady and did not have any let downs. That is really good
to see.”
NAU recorded three doubles wins and dominated singles play with six
wins in straight sets. It was the second sweep of the season for
the Lumberjacks.
“This was a confidence builder,” Paulosky said.
“We are looking forward to Idaho State. We will find out what
this team is in the next four matches.”
NAU is in the midst of a five-match homestand. The Lumberjacks will
play Idaho State on Sunday, March 22 at 9 a.m. at the Flagstaff
Athletic Club.
