Men’s Tennis Falls to Montana in Big Sky Quarterfinals

SACRAMENTO, Calif. – The Northern Arizona men’s tennis season ended on Friday against Montana in a 4-2 defeat at the Gold River Racquet Club in the quarterfinals of the Big Sky Conference Championships. NAU finished the 2009 season 7-18 overall and 5-3 in the Big Sky.

In doubles play, Andrew Reiff and Robin Pezzutto bested Montana’s Felipe Raw and Raydner Ramos (8-5) at the No. 2 position. Montana (11-8, 4-4 BSC) picked up a win at No. 1, but Chris Arena and Jaco Visagie prevailed over Montana’s Colin Dektar and David Cysneiros (8-6) at No. 3 to secure the point.

The Lumberjacks opened with a 2-0 lead after Reiff defeated Dektar at No. 1 singles. However, Montana picked up the next four decisions to advance to the semifinals.

In their first postseason matches, Reiff and Pezzutto were a combined 3-0. Pezzutto also led Raw (6-0, 3-6, 4-2) at No. 4 singles, but the match went unfinished with Montana clinching the win at No. 3.
