Upshur Named College Sports Madness Preseason Men’s Basketball Player of the Year
FLAGSTAFF, Ariz. – Northern Arizona senior guard Quinton Upshur was named the College Sports Madness Men’s Basketball Preseason Big Sky Player of the Year, announced today. Upshur was also named to the first team, while senior guard Aaseem Dixon received second team preseason honors.

Suns Complete Training Camp with Spirited Scrimmage
FLAGSTAFF, Ariz. – The Phoenix Suns concluded their week-long training camp on Saturday with their public scrimmage. Thousands of fans packed the Walkup Skydome to get a glimpse at this year's Suns squad and was treated to a fun-filled scrimmage won by the Black Team, 86-79.

NAU Men’s Basketball Opens Practice This Friday
FLAGSTAFF, Ariz. – On Friday, the Northern Arizona men’s basketball team will officially begin practice for the 2014-15 season. The Lumberjacks were able to practice during the summer for their trip to the Bahamas, but come Friday the road to March Madness starts at 2 p.m. at the Rolle Activity Center.

PHOENIX, Ariz. – Northern Arizona University will host the Phoenix Suns Training Camp for the second straight season. The Suns report for training camp on the Flagstaff campus from September 30 through October 4.

NAU Athletics and Great Circle Media Agree on New Radio Deal
FLAGSTAFF, Ariz. – The Northern Arizona Athletics Department and Great Circle Media have reached an agreement for Hits 106.1 FM (KFSZ) in Flagstaff to serve as the new flagship station for Lumberjack sports. In addition, Fun Oldies 100.9 FM and 1450 AM (KNOT) in Prescott will be added to Lumberjack Radio Network to better serve the tri-city area of Yavapai County. The new partnership agreement is for three years.

NAU Captures Men’s and Women’s Big Sky All-Sports Trophy
OGDEN, Utah – Northern Arizona has captured both the men’s and women’s Big Sky All-Sports Trophies, the conference office announced Monday. The Lumberjacks went into the outdoor track championship with the lead, and a sweep by the men’s and women’s teams this past weekend secured NAU the win on both sides. The sweep is the first true sweep by any school since 2000-01.

Women’s Tennis and Swimming & Diving Rank in Top 10 Percent
INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. – Northern Arizona women’s tennis and swimming & diving were both honored by the NCAA for earning Public Recognition Awards, based on their most recent multi-year Academic Progress Rate. These awards are given each year to teams with APRs in the top 10 percent in each sport. This is the second straight year women’s tennis has received the honor.

Forty-Three Student-Athletes to Receive Degrees This Weekend
FLAGSTAFF, Ariz. – Forty-three Northern Arizona student-athletes will receive their degrees from the university this weekend as part of the Spring 2014 commencement ceremonies. When adding in the 15 student-athletes who participated in the Fall 2013 commencement ceremonies, the NAU Athletics Department produced a total of 58 graduates for the 2013-14 academic year.

Jacobsen, Smith Named Golden Eagle Top Scholar-Athletes
FLAGSTAFF, Ariz. – The Northern Arizona University Athletics Department held its 36th annual Golden Eagle Awards Tuesday at the High Country Conference Center to recognize its student-athletes for their stellar work in the classroom. Golden Eagle Distributors, Inc., honored 199 Lumberjack student-athletes for their scholastic and athletic accomplishments. The award recognizes student-athletes who maintain at least a 3.0 grade point average.

The Northern Arizona men’s basketball team created their own path this season, as it defeated the odds and finished tied for second in the Big Sky standings after being picked to finished seventh and ninth by the media and conference head coaches.

NAU Comeback Falls Short in Quarterfinals of Big Sky Tournament
OGDEN, Utah – The third-seeded Northern Arizona (15-17) men’s basketball team left it all on the floor tonight, but it’s comeback fell just short as No. 6 seed Northern Colorado (18-12) was able to pull off the upset. The Bears led by as many as 20 points in the second half, and yet NAU had a chance to tie or win it at the buzzer. Northern Colorado was able to escape with the 62-60 victory over NAU at the Dee Events Center in Ogden, Utah.

Men’s Basketball Upsets Big Sky Leader Weber State in Overtime
OGDEN, Utah – Northern Arizona (13-16, 10-8 Big Sky) took down Big Sky leader Weber State (16-10, 13-5 Big Sky) on the road tonight, 73-71. The Lumberjacks handed the Wildcats their first conference home loss this season, snapping a league record 27 straight home wins. Junior forward Quinton Upshur hit the game winning shot to sink Weber State. The win snapped a 12-game losing streak to the Wildcats.

GREELEY, Colo. – Junior Quinton Upshur netted a career-high 32 points against Northern Colorado, but it wasn’t enough as Northern Arizona fell to the Bears 87-72 in a battle of the top teams in the Big Sky. The loss snapped the Lumberjacks’ four-game win streak.

NAU Athletics Hosts 2nd Annual National Girls & Women in Sports Day
FLAGSTAFF, Ariz. – The Northern Arizona athletics department will once again celebrate National Girls and Women in Sports Day for the second consecutive year with a celebration that will stretch over two weekends in February. The celebration will begin on Saturday, Feb. 8, with a Youth Sports Symposium in conjunction with the NAU men’s basketball game against Southern Utah that night and will continue the following weekend with a meet and greet and halftime recognition at the NAU women’s basketball game against Eastern Washington. The clinic on Feb. 8 is open to all youth, both boys and girls, in 1st-8th grade and requires pre-registration.

Men's Basketball Uses Second Half Surge to Defeat Adams State, 86-78
FLAGSTAFF, Ariz. – Down by 12 with 11 and a half minutes to go in the game, the Northern Arizona men's basketball team erupted for a 21-0 run over the next four minutes en route to a 86-78 victory over Adams State on Saturday at the Rolle Activity Center. The Lumberjacks will now head into next Saturday's season opener at Oregon following a pair of exhibition victories.

FLAGSTAFF, Ariz. - Redshirt freshman Gabe Rogers is making a big impact in his first season on the court as a member of the Lumberjack basketball team. He has seen action in 15 games with 12 starts and averaged 8.5 points, 2.0 rebounds and 2.3 assists per game. He has tallied double figures six times, resetting career single game best four times this season with a single best of 17 points at Colorado State.
