PHOENIX, Ariz. - The Phoenix Suns will return to Flagstaff, Ariz. for the fourth consecutive season, and 20th overall, when they report for training camp at Northern Arizona University from Sept. 27 through Oct. 1. The Suns' week in Flagstaff will culminate with an open to the public scrimmage, starting at 12 p.m. on Saturday, Oct. 1, at the Walkup Skydome.
"Hosting the Phoenix Suns the fourth straight season has been a tremendous opportunity for the athletics department, University and community," said Vice President for Intercollegiate Dr. Lisa Campos. "We value our relationship with the Suns and are excited to have them on campus again."
This marks the 20th time NAU and the City of Flagstaff have hosted the team's training camp and the fourth straight year after the Suns returned in 2013 for the first time since 2004. Phoenix first used Flagstaff as a training camp site in 1986 and held camp there for 16 of 19 years from 1986 through 2004.
The Suns' training camp workouts in Flagstaff will begin at the Rolle Activity Center on Tuesday, Sept. 27, and continue through the intrasquad scrimmage.
"I am so happy that the excitement and expectations of a new season for the Phoenix Suns will start on the NAU campus and in the Flagstaff community," said NAU President, Dr. Rita Cheng. "We all benefit as the Suns come together as a team to train in high altitude while reconnecting with fans and friends throughout northern Arizona."
The Suns open their preseason schedule at home against the San Antonio Spurs on Monday, Oct. 3 at 7 p.m., at Talking Stick Resort Arena to tip-off a six-game preseason schedule in preparation for the club's 49th NBA season. Phoenix will tip-off the 2016-17 season when they host the Sacramento Kings on Friday, October 26 at Talking Stick Resort Arena.
