Tate de Laveaga Signs National Letter of Intent with Men’s Hoops
FLAGSTAFF, Ariz. –The Northern Arizona men's basketball team has signed Tate de Laveaga to a National Letter of Intent, head coach Jack Murphy announced today. De Laveaga will join the Lumberjacks for the 2014-15 season.
"We are very excited about Tate," said Murphy. "He is a great young man who competes and plays hard on both ends of the floor. Tate also showed great loyalty in keeping with his commitment and we look forward to bright days ahead for him at NAU."
De Laveaga is a 6-foot-3 guard out of Scottsdale. He played his freshman and sophomore seasons at Horizon High School in Scottsdale, before transferring to Westwind Prep Academy in Phoenix. De Laveaga is spending his senior year at Pinnacle High School in Phoenix, but will not play for the team.
During his final season at Westwind Prep Academy, De Laveaga led the team with 18.9 points, 4.9 assists and 2.1 steals per game. De Laveaga was ranked as the No. 2 guard in the state of Arizona entering his senior season.
"Tate is a hard worker, a true competitor, and a gym rat," said assistant coach Matt Dunn. "He is a combo guard that can do a little bit of everything, but most importantly he is a worker and is always looking to get better. Tate is a great addition to the Lumberjack family!"
