FLAGSTAFF, Ariz. – In a tune-up before the start of the season next week, the Northern Arizona men's basketball team hosted Arizona Christian in an exhibition game tonight at the Rolle Activity Center. The Firestorm were able to come away with the win after a 92-85 victory over the Lumberjacks.
Sophomore DeWayne Russell led NAU with 27 points on 8-for-11 shooting. Russell also made 10 out of 11 free throw shots to go along with his five assists. Freshman Kris Yanku added 12 points, eight of them coming from a solid 100 percent shooting performance at the free throw line. Senior Max Jacobsen and junior Quinton Upshur both chipped in 10 points apiece.
Northern Arizona shot 50 percent from the floor for the game, but 13 turnovers hurt the Lumberjacks' offensive effort.

Leading the charge for Arizona Christian was Brandon Newman with 27 points. Talib Uqdah had 19 points, while Jason Timpf and Jordan Block each had 10 points.
The Lumberjacks will begin regular season play on the road next weekend when they travel to San Antonio, Texas to face UTSA on Nov. 9.
