  • NAU Athletics Wins Back-to-Back Big Sky Presidents’ Cup

    OGDEN, Utah – For the second straight year, Northern Arizona Athletics has captured the Big Sky Presidents’ Cup presented by Red Lion Hotels. NAU finished first in overall in athletic points for the second consecutive year, in addition to claiming the Big Sky Men’s and Women’s All-Sports Trophies in May.

  • Jacobsen, Smith Receive Big Sky's Top Scholar Athlete Award

    OGDEN, Utah – Max Jacobsen and Stirling Smith were announced as NAU’s 2014 Big Sky Conference Scholar Athlete Award recipients on Thursday for their athletic and academic performance during the 2013-14 school year. Jacobsen and Smith were the top Senior Golden Eagle scholar-athlete honorees at the annual Golden Eagle Awards banquet in April.
  • Head Men’s Basketball Coach Jack Murphy and NAU Agree on Contract Extension

    FLAGSTAFF, Ariz. – Northern Arizona head men’s basketball coach Jack Murphy has received a contract extension that will run through 2019; the Arizona Board of Regents approved this week. Murphy completes his second season at NAU after leading the Lumberjacks to a second place finish in the Big Sky.

The Norfolk, Va. native was one of 10 players selected to play on the USA Eagles squad and compete in a tour across Asia.

  • NAU Captures Men’s and Women’s Big Sky All-Sports Trophy

    OGDEN, Utah – Northern Arizona has captured both the men’s and women’s Big Sky All-Sports Trophies, the conference office announced Monday. The Lumberjacks went into the outdoor track championship with the lead, and a sweep by the men’s and women’s teams this past weekend secured NAU the win on both sides. The sweep is the first true sweep by any school since 2000-01.

  • Women’s Tennis and Swimming & Diving Rank in Top 10 Percent

    INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. – Northern Arizona women’s tennis and swimming & diving were both honored by the NCAA for earning Public Recognition Awards, based on their most recent multi-year Academic Progress Rate. These awards are given each year to teams with APRs in the top 10 percent in each sport. This is the second straight year women’s tennis has received the honor.
  • Forty-Three Student-Athletes to Receive Degrees This Weekend

    FLAGSTAFF, Ariz. – Forty-three Northern Arizona student-athletes will receive their degrees from the university this weekend as part of the Spring 2014 commencement ceremonies. When adding in the 15 student-athletes who participated in the Fall 2013 commencement ceremonies, the NAU Athletics Department produced a total of 58 graduates for the 2013-14 academic year.

    FLAGSTAFF, Ariz. – The Northern Arizona University Student-Athlete Advisory Committee held the inaugural Louies awards show Wednesday night at the Prochnow Auditorium to celebrate the year that was in NAU Athletics. It was a night of celebration, honoring and recognizing all of the Lumberjack student-athletes for their success in the classroom, in competition and in the community.

    FLAGSTAFF, Ariz. – The Northern Arizona University Athletics Department held its 36th annual Golden Eagle Awards Tuesday at the High Country Conference Center to recognize its student-athletes for their stellar work in the classroom. Golden Eagle Distributors, Inc., honored 199 Lumberjack student-athletes for their scholastic and athletic accomplishments. The award recognizes student-athletes who maintain at least a 3.0 grade point average.

  • NAU Comeback Falls Short in Quarterfinals of Big Sky Tournament

    OGDEN, Utah – The third-seeded Northern Arizona (15-17) men’s basketball team left it all on the floor tonight, but it’s comeback fell just short as No. 6 seed Northern Colorado (18-12) was able to pull off the upset. The Bears led by as many as 20 points in the second half, and yet NAU had a chance to tie or win it at the buzzer. Northern Colorado was able to escape with the 62-60 victory over NAU at the Dee Events Center in Ogden, Utah.

The tournament is hosted by Weber State in Ogden, Utah and is set to begin on Thursday, March 13. The Lumberjacks will play the Bears at 4:30 p.m. at the Dee Events Center.

    FLAGSTAFF, Ariz. - Northern Arizona University's men's basketball team hosted Montana State in Big Sky Conference matchup at the J.L. Walkup Skydome. NAU defeated Montana State 61-48 as the team was able to dominate the game defensively and on the glass winning the rebound battle 38 to 19.

  • Men’s Basketball Upsets Big Sky Leader Weber State in Overtime

    OGDEN, Utah – Northern Arizona (13-16, 10-8 Big Sky) took down Big Sky leader Weber State (16-10, 13-5 Big Sky) on the road tonight, 73-71. The Lumberjacks handed the Wildcats their first conference home loss this season, snapping a league record 27 straight home wins. Junior forward Quinton Upshur hit the game winning shot to sink Weber State. The win snapped a 12-game losing streak to the Wildcats.

    POCATELLO, Idaho – It was another hard fought battle between Northern Arizona (12-16, 9-8 Big Sky) and Idaho State 10-16, 7-10 Big Sky), but it was the Lumberjacks who came out on top with the 66-65 victory at Reed Arena tonight. The win gives NAU a season sweep over the Bengals, as it snaps a three-game losing streak for the Lumberjacks.

Tip-off at Reed Gym is slated for 7:05 p.m. Saturday, March 1, the Lumberjacks will face conference leader Weber State (15-9, 12-4 Big Sky) at 7 p.m. at the Dee Events Center.
