FLAGSTAFF, Ariz. – The Northern Arizona men's basketball team travels to Colorado Friday for the first of two non-conference road games over the holidays. Tipoff is scheduled for 6:30 p.m. against the Buffaloes in Boulder and can be heard on the Lumberjack Radio Network on 105.1 The Big Talker and seen on the PAC-12 Network.
"We have had a challenging schedule up to this point," said NAU Head Coach Jack Murphy. "We have shown we can play with anybody. In the last five minutes of eight games we have had a chance to either win or it has been neck and neck. We are a group of fighters."
Colorado is the third member of the PAC-12 Conference on the Lumberjacks schedule. NAU's strength of schedule ranked No. 42 in the nation entering the week.
"It is going to be a great environment at Colorado," said Murphy. "Coach Boyle, who has coached in the Big Sky Conference, has done a great job there for the Buffaloes. They are again going to be one of the top teams in the PAC-12. We are going to give them our best shot."
Colorado, the defending PAC-12 Tournament champions, leads the all-time series with the Lumberjacks 3-0. The two schools are meeting for the first time since the 1991 season.
"We feel like we have left some stuff on the table in some of our other non-conference games," said Murphy. "We are going to try to collect in Boulder. We are going to go in there to win."
CU Head Coach Tad Boyle is 5-3 all-time against the Lumberjacks from his time as the head coach at Northern Colorado. The Buffs have been idle for nine days after posting an 8-2 start on the season. CU is 36-4 at home under Boyle.
NAU is coming off four consecutive home games after playing their first six games on the road. The Lumberjacks travel to BYU on Dec. 27 after the holiday break before returning to Big Sky Conference action on Jan. 3 against Sacramento State.
