Hall of Famer and Former Basketball Coach Gregg Passes
PAYSON, Ariz. – Northern Arizona Athletics Hall of Famer and longtime men's basketball coach Herb Gregg passed away on March 15.
Gregg coached the Lumberjack basketball teams from 1950-74 and was the winningest coach in school history. He won six conference championships in the New Mexico and Frontier conferences, and compiled a 290-288 career record. During his tenure, he led NAU to 17 winning seasons and two appearances in the NAIA National Tournament. His 1962 team reached the NAIA quarterfinals. He also coached baseball and golf, and was an assistant football coach for four years and served as athletic director. He was inducted into the original Hall of Fame class in 1981.
Gregg was a World War II veteran and received a Silver Star and two Bronze Stars.
