FLAGSTAFF, Ariz. – The Northern Arizona men's basketball team will open the season at Iowa State on November 12, host a game at Tim's Toyota Center in Prescott and play a tough non-conference road slate in the 2010-11 schedule, Head Coach Mike Adras announced Tuesday.
The Lumberjacks will play in the Global Sports Hy-Vee Challenge that will take them to Iowa State (Nov. 12, Ames, Iowa), Creighton (Nov. 14, Omaha, Neb.) and Kennesaw State (Nov. 22) in Atlanta, Ga., in the first month of the season, while hosting a games against Alabama State as part of the four-game event.
The Lumberjacks will tipoff their "home" season on Nov. 16 with a game against Alabama State in Prescott at the Tim's Toyota Center.
"It is a new venue for our team," said Head Coach Mike Adras. "We have played all over the state and it will be a chance to showcase our basketball program and our university. It is a nice opportunity to bring the Prescott community and Flagstaff community closer together."
The first regular season home game in Flagstaff comes three days later on Nov. 19 at the Rolle Activity Center against Southwestern College as part of a doubleheader with the women's program. It is the first of 12 men's regular season games in the facility due to the construction project in the Walkup Skydome.
"It is going to be rocking in Rolle," said Adras. "It is a smaller venue and I think the fans are going to love it. It is going to be a great place for the fans to be intimidating to the opponent and make a difference in ball games. Our players are going to love it and the band is going to be loud. It is going to be a very festive couple hours of basketball every time we play basketball in the facility."
The Lumberjacks host Bethany (Dec. 4), Texas Pan American (Dec. 8) and Air Force (Dec. 22) in December before the start of conference play. They also travel to USC and Arizona, playing two Pac-10 opponents in back-to-back contests Dec. 11 and 16, respectively.
NAU opens Big Sky Conference play Dec. 29 at Montana and plays Montana State on a special New Year's Eve afternoon contest in Bozeman on Dec. 31. They play host to Idaho State and Weber State the first weekend of January to open the home conference slate.
All 29 regular season contests will be broadcast on the Lumberjack Radio Network on 105.1 FM The Big Talker in Flagstaff, Prescott and Sedona. NAU Television Services is also scheduled to televise 10 games this season from Rolle on Dish Network 9411 with distribution to Fox College Sports and FS Arizona. The full television schedule will be available on nauathletics.com.
The Lumberjacks will open the season with an exhibition contest on Nov. 3 against Western New Mexico at 6:35 p.m.
"I highly recommend people get tickets well in advance because of the limited space available in the facility," said Adras.
Tickets are available for the season by calling NAU Athletics at 928-523-5353.
