Mens Basketball Loses to Weber State 87-62
FLAGSTAFF, Ariz. – Weber
State broke open a close game with a 21-6 run midway through the
second half to defeat Northern Arizona 87-62 Saturday at the Walkup
NAU dropped to 7-9, 1-4 in Big Sky play, while the Wildcats improved to 10-7, 4-1 in league play.
The Lumberjacks trailed by 11 at the half after the Wildcats shot 53 percent in the first half and hit five three-pointers. NAU got back in the game with a 10-1 run to start the second half, cutting the lead to 43-41 just 3:17 into the half. But the Wildcats responded with a 21-6 run to extend the lead to 17 points at 64-47 with 9:13 left in the game and led by as many as 27 points.
NAU shot just 30 percent in the second half, finishing 18-for-50 (36 percent) for the game. NAU was out-rebounded 43-31 and was out-scored in the second half by 15 points.
Junior Cameron Jones led the Lumberjacks with 16 points, while Gabe Rogers added 13 points. Senior Nick Larson had 10 points.
The Wildcats had five players in double figures led by 17 points by Nick Hansen.
NAU hits the road next week with a game at Eastern Washington on Friday, Jan. 15. The Lumberjacks play at Portland State on Sunday in the Big Sky Game of the Week on Altitude.
