Mens Basketball Gets First Big Sky Win over Idaho State

Cameron Jones scored a game-high 26 points to lead Northern Arizona
to a 68-56 victory over Idaho State Thursday at the Walkup
NAU won its first Big Sky Conference game to improve to 1-3 in league play and 7-8 overall, while Idaho State dropped to 4-12, 1-3.
“We made an emphasis today that we were going to defend our home court,” said Jones.
Jones scored 13 of his 26 points in the first half as the Lumberjacks built a 20-point lead at halftime. NAU shot 48 percent in the opening half and hit five three pointers. The Bengals were held to 30.8 percent from the field.
“We got off to a good start,” said Jones. “Our defense, rebounding and our intensity helped us get the early advantage in the game.”
It was the 11th 20-plus point game of Jones career and fifth of the season. He has averaged 23.5 points over the last four games, scoring 20 or more in three of the four contests.
ISU out-scored the Lumberjacks by eight points in the second half, cutting the lead to 10 points with 5:19 left in the game with a 10-0 run but never got the deficit into single digits.
Jones finished 9-for-18 from the field with five assists, three rebounds and zero turnovers in 35 minutes of action. Eric Platt contributed 13 points off the bench with sophomore Josh Lepley adding 10 points. Gabe Rogers scored 11 points in the contest.
Amorrow Morgan led the Bengals with 16 points.
NAU returns to action on Saturday against Weber State. Tipoff is scheduled to start at 6:35 p.m.
