OGDEN, Utah – Northern Arizona defensive end Siupeli Anau has been named the ROOT SPORTS Big Sky Defensive Player of the Week, the league office announced Monday. It is the first conference weekly honor for the defensive end.
Anau, a native of Phoenix, Ariz., was instrumental in NAU's 20-14 win on the road at Montana State this past Saturday. It was NAU's defense that stepped up huge for the Lumberjacks against the Bobcats. Anau led the charge with three sacks for a loss of 32 yards, including a pair of forced fumbles. The first fumble came in the first quarter when Anau sacked Tyler Bruggman for a drop of 12 yards. He added another sack in the second quarter, this time for a loss of 15 yards. With under two minutes to play, MSU had the ball on the NAU35 with a chance at scoring, but Anau sacked the MSU quarterback for a loss of five yards and forced a fumble that was scooped up by Xavier Stephens and returned for 44 yards giving NAU the ball and the win.
Anau was also named the College Sports Madness Big Sky Defensive Player of the Week, and is an honoree for FCS Defensive/Special Teams HERO of the Week for HERO Sports.
