FLAGSTAFF, Ariz. – The Northern Arizona football team held its final scrimmage of the fall to close out camp. The Lumberjacks were competitive on both sides of the ball, giving fans in the stands a lot to look forward to this season.
"I'm really proud of the progress we made from day one of camp to now," said head coach Jerome Souers. "We were able to show consistency, and that was one of the major things I was looking for. The coaching staff and the players committed themselves to improving and now it's time to prepare for our season opener next week."
Today's scrimmage only needed three plays to make it into the endzone, showing that the arm power of Case Cookus mixed with the talent of the wide receivers is still a sight to see.
The offense shined today with its blend of pass and run plays, while the defense showed that one miscue can lead to a pick six.
NAU has six starters returning on offense and five on defense. The Lumberjacks added more talent in the offseason with a few transfers that look to make a mark this season. Stay tuned.
The Lumberjacks will kick off the season on Saturday, Sept. 3 at Arizona State. NAU will play its first-two games of the season on the road before welcoming New Mexico Highlands on Saturday, Sept. 17 in the home opener.
