FLAGSTAFF, Ariz. – The Northern Arizona football team completed their first scrimmage of spring ball today. It was also Junior Day for the Lumberjacks as everyone piled into the Walkup Skydome to catch some Saturday football.
"We're really moving at a fast tempo," said wide receiver Emmanuel Butler. "A lot of guys are really stepping up and making plays. We're not depending on just a few guys to get it done. Our young guys played most of the scrimmage today and that helped to get them a few more reps than usual."
NAU's defense showed their speed and hand skills off today making it tough for the offense. Safety Kam'ron Johnson came away with an interception early on in the scrimmage to really give the defense an emotional boost.
"Our defense changed it up a little from last year," added Butler. "They're starting to fly around and make tackles. They've definitely gotten a lot more physical and their intensity."
NAU will continue practice next week on Tuesday and Thursday at 4 p.m., while Saturday's practice is slated for 10 a.m.
