FLAGSTAFF, Ariz. – Freshman quarterback Case Cookus elevated his game this past weekend, resulting in numerous national and conference player of the week honors. Cookus was named the ROOT SPORTS Big Sky Offensive Player of the Week, along with grabbing HERO Sports FCS Offensive Stud of the Week, CFPA National Player of the Week honorable mention, and College Sports Madness National and Big Sky Offensive Player of the Week honors.
Cookus was instrumental in leading NAU to a 49-35 win over Sacramento State. He completed 25 of 33 passes (75.7%), threw for six touchdowns (16-20-22-16-11-34) and ran for a four-yard score to be a part of all seven of NAU's touchdowns. He brought his season touchdown passes total to 33, breaking the FCS Freshman Record for Most Touchdown Passes in a Season (previously 31, set back in 2004). He threw for a career-high 407 yards, his first 400-yard game, and ran for another 41 yards.
NAU never trailed in the game, as it finished the regular season at home undefeated for the second time in three years.
This is Cookus' second Big Sky weekly honor.
