Lumberjacks Climb Up the Polls

FLAGSTAFF, Ariz. – The Northern Arizona football team finds itself ranked for the second straight week, as it enters the final weekend of regular season play. The Lumberjacks were slotted 20th in the FCS Coaches' poll and 24th in the STATS FCS Top 25 poll.

The Lumberjacks rolled past Sacramento State 49-35 on Saturday to cap regular season home play undefeated for the second time in three seasons. NAU scored a minimum 41 points in all five home contests, and a high of 63 points.

NAU scored first versus the Hornets and never looked back. The Lumberjacks registered 35 points by the time halftime hit, leading to four straight scores for the home team. Quarterback Case Cookus threw for six touchdowns and ran for another as NAU was victorious on Senior Day. Cookus' six touchdown passes made him the new FCS record holder for Most Touchdowns in a Season By a Freshman with 33.

The Lumberjacks head to No. 18/20 Southern Utah for a 3 p.m. kickoff this Saturday.
