FLAGSTAFF, Ariz. – With fall camp set to begin in five days, the Northern Arizona football team had nine players named to the College Sports Madness 2015 Preseason Big Sky All-Conference Teams, announced by the organization.
Earning first team honors were senior tight end RJ Rickert, senior cornerback Marcus Alford and senior placekicker/punter Ryan Hawkins. Rickert redshirted last season due to injury, while Alford tied for a team-high in interceptions with three and was one of the top pass defenders in the nation. Hawkins, a three-time conference player of the week honoree, registered 20 punts for 1,023 yards averaging 51.2 yards per punt.
Second team honors went to senior running back Casey Jahn and senior safety Eddie Horn. Jahn led NAU with 824 rushing yards on 185 attempts with four touchdowns. Horn was NAU's top tackler with 88 stops, as he tied with Alford for three interceptions.
Senior wide receiver Dejzon Walker, junior offensive lineman Eric Rodriguez, senior offensive lineman Leroy Guenther and sophomore defensive lineman Deon Young all picked up third team accolades. Walker sat out last season due to injury, as he enters the season with 1,194 career receiving yards. Guenther and Rodriguez were critical to the offensive line last season that produced 3,270 passing yards and 1,764 rushing yards. As a redshirt freshman last season, Young had 33 tackles, 3.5 tackles for loss and 2.5 sacks.
NAU opens camp on Monday, Aug. 10. The Lumberjacks season opener will be on the road at Stephen F. Austin on Sept. 5.
