FLAGSTAFF, Ariz. – The Northern Arizona football team has announced the addition of Abilene Christian to their 2014 schedule. NAU's addition of Abilene Christian gives the Lumberjacks a 12-game fall schedule; seven on the road and five at home.
"It's always important to schedule quality opponents in our non-conference because we want the team to be prepared for the grind of the Big Sky," said head coach Jerome Souers. "The goal is to challenge ourselves every year against great competition and there's no question Abilene is going to be an exciting test for our program. We have great respect for the entire Southland Conference and Abilene Christian will only add to the Southland's storied tradition. I know the team is looking forward to heading out to Texas and we'll represent the NAU athletic program with pride."
The Lumberjacks will travel to Abilene, Texas on Sept. 6 for a match up against the Wildcats in their home opener. Kickoff at Shotwell Stadium is still to be determined. Abilene Christian will compete in the Southland Conference this year and participate for the first time as a full member at the Division I FCS level. The Wildcats finished last season 6-5 as an independent.
NAU opens its 2014 slate on the road at San Diego State on August 30. The Lumberjacks' first home game will be on Sept. 13 versus New Mexico Highlands.
