PHILADELPHIA, PA – The Northern Arizona football team was picked to finish 18th in The Sports Network FCS Top 25 Preseason Poll, which was released on Tuesday. The ranking is the sixth of the preseason for the Lumberjacks, as multiple websites and magazines have picked NAU to finish between 16th and 18th place for the upcoming season.
The Lumberjacks led the Big Sky with six preseason all-conference picks – Zach Bauman, Anders Battle, Lucky Dozier, R.J. Rickert, Andy Wilder and Tim Wilkinson. Four of those six selections have also earned preseason All-American honors.
NAU will play its season opener on Friday, August 30 at the University of Arizona. The Lumberjacks have a full week's worth of practice under their belts, as they continue to prepare for this upcoming season and a run at the conference title.
The Sports Network Poll is voted on by a national panel of sports information and media relations directors, broadcasters, writers and other dignitaries.
The Colonial Athletic Association had the most teams in the preseason Top 25 with six, followed by the Big Sky with five and the Missouri Valley and Southern conferences with four each. The Southland Conference had two teams, and the OVC, Big South, MEAC and Patriot League each had one.
