NAU Athletics Wins Back-to-Back Big Sky Presidents’ Cup
OGDEN, Utah – For the second straight year, Northern Arizona Athletics has captured the Big Sky Presidents’ Cup presented by Red Lion Hotels. NAU finished first in overall in athletic points for the second consecutive year, in addition to claiming the Big Sky Men’s and Women’s All-Sports Trophies in May.

Four Lumberjacks Named NSCA All-American Athlete Award Recipients
COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. – The National Strength and Conditioning Association (NSCA) and Muscle Milk announced that four Northern Arizona student-athletes were named 2014 All-American Athlete Award recipients. Football seniors Drew Emanuel and Kyle Walker, soccer senior Elinor Priest, and volleyball junior Sydney Kemper were all recognized by the organization.

NAU Captures Men’s and Women’s Big Sky All-Sports Trophy
OGDEN, Utah – Northern Arizona has captured both the men’s and women’s Big Sky All-Sports Trophies, the conference office announced Monday. The Lumberjacks went into the outdoor track championship with the lead, and a sweep by the men’s and women’s teams this past weekend secured NAU the win on both sides. The sweep is the first true sweep by any school since 2000-01.

Forty-Three Student-Athletes to Receive Degrees This Weekend
FLAGSTAFF, Ariz. – Forty-three Northern Arizona student-athletes will receive their degrees from the university this weekend as part of the Spring 2014 commencement ceremonies. When adding in the 15 student-athletes who participated in the Fall 2013 commencement ceremonies, the NAU Athletics Department produced a total of 58 graduates for the 2013-14 academic year.

FLAGSTAFF, Ariz. – The Northern Arizona University Student-Athlete Advisory Committee held the inaugural Louies awards show Wednesday night at the Prochnow Auditorium to celebrate the year that was in NAU Athletics. It was a night of celebration, honoring and recognizing all of the Lumberjack student-athletes for their success in the classroom, in competition and in the community.

Lowther, Derflinger, Smith & Herrero Receive Gold Axe Award
FLAGSTAFF, Ariz. – Four Northern Arizona University student-athletes were recognized among their graduating peers Tuesday night with the prestigious Gold Axe Award. Andrea Derflinger, Emma Lowther and Stirling Smith of the swimming & diving team and Jim Herrero of the football team received the Gold Axe Award for the 2014 spring semester for their achievements on and off the field and their service to the university as well as the community.

Jacobsen, Smith Named Golden Eagle Top Scholar-Athletes
FLAGSTAFF, Ariz. – The Northern Arizona University Athletics Department held its 36th annual Golden Eagle Awards Tuesday at the High Country Conference Center to recognize its student-athletes for their stellar work in the classroom. Golden Eagle Distributors, Inc., honored 199 Lumberjack student-athletes for their scholastic and athletic accomplishments. The award recognizes student-athletes who maintain at least a 3.0 grade point average.

FLAGSTAFF, Ariz. – There were approximately 10 NFL scouts on the Northern Arizona University campus Wednesday morning for pro day. The former Lumberjack players went through various testing drills during the three-hour workout in Flagstaff.

Lumberjack Student-Athletes Volunteer with Winter Games
FLAGSTAFF, Ariz. – Last Friday and Saturday, the Northern Arizona football, volleyball and soccer teams volunteered with the Special Olympics Winter Games here in Flagstaff at a variety of locations. In all, 25 student-athletes volunteered a total of 94.5 hours over the two days.

NAU Football to Hold Pro Day March 5th
FLAGSTAFF, Ariz. – The Northern Arizona football program will hold its Pro Day on Wednesday, March 5, announced head coach Jerome Souers. Check-in will begin at 7 a.m. with individual workouts in the weight room set to start at 9 a.m. in the Walkup Skydome. Fans are invited to come watch field workouts, which will begin after the weight room testing has been completed.

Lumberjack Football Inks 28 on Signing Day, 16 from Arizona
FLAGSTAFF, Ariz. – The Northern Arizona football program looks to build on a 2013 season that saw the Lumberjacks reach the Football Championship Subdivision Playoffs, finish second in the Big Sky Conference and go undefeated at home during the regular season. With that the Lumberjacks announce the signing of 28 players to a National Letter of Intent.

Bauman Shines in East-West Shrine Game
ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. - Northern Arizona senior All-American running back Zach Bauman shined today on the field at the East-West Shrine Game that was held in St. Petersburg, Fla. at Tropicana Field. Bauman led all running backs with 47 yards as he helped lead the East to a 23-13 victory.

FLAGSTAFF, Ariz. – Northern Arizona University announced a new four year contract extension for head football coach Jerome Souers on Wednesday. Souers, who joined NAU in 1998, led NAU to the Football Championship Subdivision (FCS) Playoffs for the first time in 10 years. The Lumberjacks finished the 2013 season ranked No. 15 in the final polls.

The Lumberjacks moved up two spots to No. 10 in The Sports Network poll. The FCS Coaches Poll has NAU slated 12th, one position up from last week. #ThrowbackThursday Big Sky 1978 Championship Team Reunites
It’s 35 years later and the 1978 Big Sky Conference Championship football team is back in the building. The 1978 Lumberjacks were the first group of Northern Arizona players to compete at the NCAA Division I-AA level after moving up from Division II. The team feared no one as it captured Northern Arizona’s first-ever conference title in its first year at the I-AA level. Under head coach Joe Salem, the Lumberjacks posted a perfect 6-0 league record en route to an 8-2 overall mark.

A Bachelier Tradition
Over the past few years, the Bachelier family has been a part of the Lumberjacks football team and university. Junior Andy Bachelier enters his second as a long snapper replacing his brother, Ben.
