Football Opens Season at Arizona State Thursday, Aug. 30

FLAGSTAFF, Ariz. - The Northern Arizona football team opens its 2012 season at Arizona State Thursday night at 7:30 p.m. in Sun Devil Stadium. The game will be televised nationally on the Pac-12 Network and broadcast on the Lumberjack Radio Network on 105.1 The Big Talker.

The NAU Alumni Association will hold a pre-game event at Gordon Biersch – 420 S Mill Ave., Tempe from 4-7 p.m. The cost is $20 per person, including food and beverages. Advance reservations and payment will be expected by email to or phone at 888-778-7628.

NAU and ASU have met 38 times dating back to 1915. The Sun Devils lead the all-time series 20-14-4 and have won eight consecutive games in the series including a 41-20 win in 2010. ASU scored twice in the decisive quarter to seal the victory after the Lumberjacks had pulled within 27-20 with 21 seconds left in the third quarter on a 35-yard score from Michael Herrick to Khalil Paden.

The meeting in 2003 was the first between the schools since 1950 despite the short distance (153 miles) between the two campuses. NAU and ASU played regularly as members of the Border Conference back in the day.
