Former All-American Wide Receiver Alex Watson Signs with CFL's Blue Bombers
WINNIPEG – Former Northern Arizona wide receiver Alex Watson has signed with the Winnipeg Blue Bombers of the Canadian Football League.
Watson will play for receivers coach Chris Wiesehan, who coached at NAU from 2001-04 and is entering his second season with the Blue Bombers.
Watson ranks among NAU career leaders in catches (196, 2nd), receiving yards (2,205, 6th) and touchdowns (23, 3rd). He became the seventh player in school history to record 2,000 career receiving yards against Weber State, earning consensus first-team All-American by the Walter Camp Foundation, Sports Network, Associated Press and College Sporting News (Fabulous FCS 50) in 2006. He had a team-best and school-record 82 receptions for 1,017 yards and a school-record 15 touchdowns in 2006, becoming the eighth player in school record to record 1,000 receiving yards in a season.
Watson last played with the Amarillo Dusters of the Arena 2 league in 2009.
Watson joins former teammate Alex Henderson, who signed with the Blue Bombers this offseason. They open the 2011 campaign against Montreal on June 16.
