Football Team Hosts Spring Game Saturday at Sinagua Middle School
FLAGSTAFF, Ariz. – The Northern Arizona football team will hold its annual Blue and Gold Spring Game on Saturday, April 30 at Sinagua Middle School. The action will start at 11 a.m.
"We have a goal of seeing as many of the kids as we can see play," said Head Coach Jerome Souers. "Our goal is to put this whole thing together and get to as close to a game-type situation that we can. We are still playing a lot of players."
The game culminates a five-week period in which the Lumberjacks had 14 practices in preparation for the 2011 season.
The quarterback position will be one of the most watched on Saturday. Souers will replace quarterback Michael Herrick, who finished his career as the all-time leader in completion percentage (65.0) and yards per attempts (7.5). Among the candidates looking to take over behind center include Chasen Stangel, who saw action in nine games last season and threw for 376 yards.
Fans are encouraged to arrive early to get the best seat with the limited seating available. Fans may bring lawn chairs to provide additional seating around the field complex and seating area but will not be allowed to use them directly on the track surface.
Jotini's will be hosting a barbeque with the assistance of the Student Athlete Advisory Committee following the game. The cost is only $5 following the game.
NAU was forced to conduct spring practice at Sinagua due to the Walkup Skydome renovation. The Lumberjacks return to the Skydome on Sept. 10 against Fort Lewis.
